Shannon Heaton

Boston-based Irish flute player Shannon Heaton will lead a workshop, then perform an intimate set of tunes, songs, and stories, taking listeners on a tour of places and people that keep Irish music alive. After the hour-long show, she will lead a traditional Irish music session for all levels.

Shannon Heaton is an internationally famed Irish traditional flute player, singer and story teller. Shannon has lived in her adopted home of Boston since 2001, where she was named 2016 Traditional Artist Fellow by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and has been twice named Live Ireland’s Female Artist of the Year. She is a warm, entertaining performer and excels at making Irish music relevant and accessible to a wide variety of audiences. She hosts the Irish Music Stories podcast and has been bringing people together with her YouTube channel for many years.

Whether you’re newer to Irish sessions or a seasoned veteran, Shannon will delve deep into how to supercharge the social music experience. Learn (or reconsider) how to listen and contribute; effective ways to start and switch tunes; best rhythmic grooves; and how to boost confidence and comfort for everybody

Concert Details

In her solo shows, Shannon shares tunes, songs, and stories, taking listeners on a tour of places and people who keep Irish music alive. She is passionate about making traditional music approachable for a wide range of listeners. Onstage and with her culture podcast Irish Music Stories she brings people IN to Irish traditional music. She’s accessible, welcoming, and fun.
